NASCAR Mulls Adding Rainbow Road 500 to NASCAR Cup Series To Increase Viewership
/With longtime NASCAR CEO Brian France taking a leave of absence, interim CEO Jim France and the NASCAR executives have been brainstorming ways to increase the number of viewers at home.
“We’re looking to evolve and give our fans the best product we can.” Jim France said to WWTF in Daytona Beach. “We think Rainbow Road has a well-defined legacy and longstanding tradition of competitive racing and ruining friendships. I think the fans will gravitate to the nostalgia of the Rainbow Road circuit, while finding a new appreciation for turtle shells in NASCAR.”
However, not everyone is happy with the potential of the deadly Rainbow Road being added to the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. Jimmie Johnson, 7 time Cup Series winner, has concerns with the possible changes. “There are no walls on Rainbow Road.” Johnson stated. “And we don’t even know which console version of the damn track we’re getting. Every driver will almost certainly die. Not to mention I’ll probably lose a lot of my friends.”
