Jimmy Butler Holds Players-Only Team Meeting; "Why Is Derrick Rose Still Here?"
/Minnesota Timberwolves SG/SF Jimmy Butler had a heated exchange with GM Scott Layden yesterday during a Wolves practice. Butler expressed his desire for a trade from the team about 3 weeks ago. During the practice, Butler yelled at Layden, “You f***ing need me, Scott.”
Earlier today, after the Wolves cancelled their team practice, Butler conducted a players-only meeting in order to clear the air. After the meeting, Butler said to a reporter at WWTF, “I just wanted to tell the team that my frustrations weren’t with them, it was with management. Like for real, why is Derrick Rose still here? Dude gotta plug in and charge his knees every 15 minutes. Running up and down court like a damn Prius. That’s not winning basketball.”
Minnesota’s star center, Karl-Anthony Towns also spoke to reporters briefly after the meeting. “I think our management is doing a great job. I want Jimmy here and the team wants Jimmy here.” the former Kentucky Wildcat said. “But at the same time, I also don’t know why Derrick is still on the roster. It’s scientifically proven you can’t win a title with him.”
When Towns was asked if Jimmy said anything to Derrick Rose during the meeting, Towns stated that Rose wasn’t invited. “Yeah, uh, Jimmy said Derrick’s right knee was still plugged into the wall so I guess he didn’t get the invite.”
